ANNUAL PROGRAMS

    
    The 5-Mile Race/2-Mile Walk is held at the beautiful Burke Lake Park, Fairfax, VA. in September.  Donations from this event support the Chapter R.C. Cartwright ROTC Scholarship Fund and Leadership Outreach programs.  All entrants will receive a T-shirt and the top three overall male and female runners , finishers, and ROTC Cadets in each age group will be awarded prizes.  There is also an award for the top male and female in the 70+ and walker categories. We also have a Corporate Challenge and ROTC Challenge for the corporate and ROTC teams with the best times.

     The West Hamilton Dinner and Silent Auction is held every fall at the Andrews Air Force Base Golf Club.  This event is a great opportunity to enjoy dinner and dance with Chapter members and local ROTC Cadets and see deserving Chapter members receive awards during a brief Award Ceremony.  In conjunction with this dinner, the Silent Auction, historically conducted by the late LTG(R) Ed Honor started in 1986, will continue as a testament to him and as a Chapter fundraiser.  The proceeds from the Silent Auction go toward several programs sponsored by the Washington DC Chapter.  Awards presented at this event are: Volunteerism Award, Junior ROCK of the Year, ROCK of the Year, and Lifetime of Leadership Award.

      The Spring Gala is the Chapter's culminating event, held in conjunction with the National Board.  Every year, members from various chapters are recognized for their contributions and ROTC Cadets are awarded scholarships.  Last year's Spring Gala theme was  "The ROCKS – Mentoring for Change and our Future."  The following presentations are presented: National and Chapter General R.C. Cartwright Scholarship Award, Chapter Volunteerism Award,  National ROCKS, Inc. Chairman Awardees, Colonel Robert B. Burke Award, ROCK of the Year Award, Honorary ROCK of the Year Award, Chapter Lifetime of Achievement Award.

     The Golf Tournament is a fundraising event held at The Ospreys Golf Club located at 401 Belmont Bay in Woodbridge, Virginia, near historic Occoquan.  First, Second, and Third place trophies are presented and golfers/entrants are eligible to win an assortment of prizes.  Prizes from previous tournaments included $25,000, a LCD flatscreen TV, Callaway Big Bertha Clubs, Domestic Round, and a Trip for Two contest.  We welcome individual, group, and corporate sponsorship at various levels.  Aside from being extremely fun, this event helps us fund scholarships for well-deserving cadets.
